Down to the final two
Two developers remain in the race to be chosen as the
preferred bidder on the South Oxhey
Initiative.
At a meeting on 14 April, your Labour councillors and Three Rivers staff received presentations from two teams. They were United House Developments, who have two local housing associations on board, and Countryside Properties who are also linked in with a housing association.
There were differences about the design of over 500 new homes, but both developers want to build at least one block of flats seven storeys high. This, like the rest of the scheme, would be subject to planning permission.
However, the amount of new affordable housing could not yet be revealed.
Your Labour team has consistently pressed for 45% of homes to be for rent. “It is maddening but, until the financial details are finalised and released, we can’t see how this stacks up and how many homes for rent will be provided,” said Councillor Stephen Cox.
Both schemes that were announced contained a supermarket and a mixture of other space for shops.
No plans are set in stone and both developers want to consult with local residents on their proposals.
“It is important your local Labour team who’ve been at every meeting on this over many years are re-elected next month so we can bring our experience and continuity to bear on getting the best deal for South Oxhey,” said Councillor Stephen Cox.
No Conservative councillors turned up at the latest meeting of the South Oxhey Initiative Steering Committee on 20 April.
The expected completion date is 2022.
