SIGN LABOUR'S PETITION OVER PAVILION DEBACLE

PictureCouncillor Stephen Cox and campaigner Clare Leahy inspect the unhelpful bollard
A petition has been launched to put pressure on the leaseholder of The Pavilion in Green Lane and Liberal Democrat-run Three Rivers Council to sort out the parking issues there.

Please sign the petition we have launched to put pressure on the leaseholder of The Pavilion in Green Lane and Liberal Democrat-run Three Rivers Council to sort out he parking issues there.

As the local Labour team revealed last year it emerged  that Three Rivers flogged the lease in 1990 to Whitbread brewery for a six-figure sum.   However, the council failed to ensure parking rights for the bowls club were protected and now the leaseholder has placed  a lockable bollard to again prevent vehicular access.

The Sea Scouts too have been left high and  dry by another council error.  When planning permission was given for their new building the council assured them they could park in the Pavilion’s car park, but hadn’t checked it properly and the Scouts have no such right.
The Liberal Democrats were pressed at a council meeting in December to say what their alternative parking plans are if agreement with the leaseholder can’t be reached, but refused.

“However, I can reveal that land off Highlands adjacent to the bowls club may be able to be used,” said Councillor Stephen Cox.

We are also backing a move by a local residents who spoke at the last parish council meeting who has plans to try and bring The Pavilion back into public use.

Sign Labour's petition

I call upon Three Rivers District Council to sort out the mess it created at the Pavilion car park whereby the rights of the bowls club to park were not protected when the council sold the lease of the building and also to address the lack of parking rights for the Scots, which the council moved there and  assured them they could park in the car but had but in fact have not right to do so.

Wildflower meadow planned

South Oxhey’s Parish Council is planning   a wildflower meadow on part of the open space near Bramshaw Gardens.

Parish Council Chairperson Councillor Joan King and campaigner Clare Leahy visited the site where the seeds will be sown.

“The details are still being worked out.  It will provide a natural habitat to encourage bees and butterflies and will improve our environment.

DISABLED ACCESS PRIORITy

Councillor Joan King is investigating how to improve access for the disabled to Esom’s chemist which moved to the new shops in Prestwick Road.  ”There’s a confusing mix of signs but not a disabled parking bay in sight and people need one,” she explained.

Parish council plans more life-saving defibrillators

CONNCERNED Parish Councillors are bidding to increase the number of life-saving defibrillators across South Oxhey.

A defibrillator helps people suffering a cardiac arrest and provides an electric shock if needed  when the heart has stopped beating normally.

At its meeting last month Labour councillors pressed for five extra defibrillators in addition to the two already situated on the estate.

The three local shopping parades, in Hallowes Crescent, Little Oxhey Lane, Prestwick Road, the Tesco petrol station and near the Co-op in Carpenders Park were seen as ideal locations.

Homebuilders Countryside was approached to help fund the cost and agreed to pay for two.   The Parish Council will stump up the difference.  Shopkeepers and the petrol station are being asked to help the community by agreeing locations at which they can be installed.

Just 50 yards apart

Until January, the only defibrillator was at the parish council hall in Oxhey Drive, which was installed in 2018.  However, out of  blue, the Police and Crime Commissioner, without consultation, installed another at the police station not 50 yards away!
Parish Council Chairperson Joan King welcomed the addition, but said as it was so close to the existing one, the parish council’s original defibrillator would be relocated to the Oxhey Hall Community Association building.

“This is all great stuff,” said community campaigner Clare Leahy of Fulford Grove.
