Stephen has a track record of service which stretches back well over 25 years, having first been elected to Chipperfield Parish Council in 1984 (during the Miners' Strike).
A strong believer in public service, his motivation is to help those in need and in particular those who, for whatever reason, are unable to help themselves. “I believe,” Stephen says, “ in representing your views on the Council, not the Council’s views to you." Stephen was a member of Kings Langley Parish Council from 1991 to 2011 and was the longest-serving councillor there, spending four years as Chair. During the 1990s Stephen was a Three Rivers District Councillor in South Oxhey, where he has many family connections. He has held a variety of positions in the Labour Party and has worked for two MPs. Stephen is an ardent fan of Watford Football Club, having held a season ticket since1977; he writes regularly for the Fans’ View in Watford Free Observer and the national newspaper The Observer. “Even sadder than that,” confesses Stephen, “ I am a fan of the ‘Carry On’ films and the Eurovision Song Contest!” Stephen is the Leader of the Three Rivers Labour Group and was re-elected on 2 May 2019 for another four-year term.
