The Leader of Three Rivers Labour councillors, Councillor Stephen Cox (right), has warmly welcomed the election of Sir Keir Starmer as the Labour Party’s new leader. Last December, the Labour Party suffered its worst general election defeat since 1935, but locally in Watford, the party performed well again.
Sir Keir won the contest on the first ballot and was Councillor Cox’s firm favourite to triumph in the leadership election which was caused by Jeremy Corbyn’s resignation. “I am glad we have Keir who is already putting the Labour Party back in business and holding the government to account over the Covid-19 crisis,” he said.
“My gut feeling is that he will go down well with public, both in South Oxhey and right across the UK,” continued Councillor Cox.
